🇦🇱 Albania: Who Are Albina & Familja Kelmendi?

The second artists is our Who Is series for Eurovision 2023 are Albina & Familja Kelmendi from Albania.

Albina Kelmendi was born in Peja in western Kosovo on January 27 1998. She studied clarinet and piano before starting to perform with her family in their group Family Band.

In 2014, Albina took part in the fourth series of The Voice of Albania. She reached the final of the competition and finished in second place.  Her coach on the show was Elsa Lila, whom she would later compete against in Festivali i Këngës 61. The following year, she took part in Top Fest with the song “Nuk ka ma mire”. In April 2022, she released her debut album “Nana loke”.

Albina will perform at Eurovision with five members of her family. These are her siblings Albin, Sidorela and Vesa and her parents Albana and Bujar.

Albina & Familja Kelmendi were selected to represent Albania through Festivali i Këngës 61. Despite finishing second in the overall jury results, a separate public vote was held to determine the Albanian representative for Eurovision 2023. Albina & Familja Kelmendi won this vote, becoming the first ever Albanian representatives to be chosen by the public.

The song that Albina & Familja Kelmendi will perform in Liverpool is called “Duje” (Love it). It was written by Eriona Rushiti and composed by
Enis Mullaj. Eriona and Enis previously wrote “Ktheju tokës”, the Albanian entry for Eurovision 2019.

Albina & Familja Kelmendi will perform in the second half of the second semi-final on May 11.
